Only in Texas

During our recent trip to Texas, we saw a few things that we are not used to here in Florida. I thought it might be fun to point out a few of them. Disclaimer: no offense intended to any Texan readers, ie: Patti.
News flash to Texas in general. "Sweet iced tea" means I want sweetened tea with ice in it. "No lemon" means I don't want lemon in it. Nor do I want peaches floating in it - lol! Wow! This was some seriously nasty-tasting sweet iced tea. Apparently in Texas they serve you raspberry flavored tea with peaches floating in it. We saw this at three different restaurants, so it seems to be the norm. When the waiter sat this glass in front of me at the Olive Garden, I asked him what it was. He told me it was what I had ordered. I just started laughing, poked the peach to the bottom of the glass with a fork, and drank it anyway. So funny!

Unless you follow my facebook page, you probably don't recognize the above. Not just found in Texas, but it happened there and I liked it, so you get to see it :O). This was a reflection made on our hotel room wall by the sun shining through our peephole on the door.

Lost any chickens lately? They can still be found, so don't worry. Just go to Chickenfinder.com and do a search. (Note wesite on side of truck.) Or, you can go to our hotel parking lot anyday, everyday, and ask this truck driver for help.

They say everything is bigger in Texas. Case in point - this icee straw. The icee was the same size we have in Florida, but the straw was huge! Just look at its size compared to the size of the cup. Whoa! And yes, the angle I took the photo at has a little to do with it, but not much. The straw was huge!

Never heard of them, so I had to take a shot of their sign. Awesome!

We spent some time in a legitimate cowboy store. Yes, we have similar places here in Florida, but not on the scale of Cavender's.

Be a pattern breaker. Our focus at Masters was "Lead the Escape". How better than by being a pattern breaker?
Need some boots? For just $324.99, you too can have an awesome pair of pink cowboy boots. And, these were in the men's section. I don't know.
Now, I don't know about you, but I don't really like my purse to have more hair than my cat. This was for real, and I just don't think I could handle that. No play on words intended.
I've heard of bling, and in Texas they have bling. Yes, you can find a couple of these at our local Wal-Mart, but not rows and rows of them. How many do they think we can wear - LOL?
Granted, I live in a country town in central Florida where the kids win buckles like these at the local fair. I've just never seen this many at once. They had some really cool ones that our 4-H kids would love!
And, this is where I have to apologize to Patti ahead of time. We went to the Texas State Capitol, which shall have its own post shortly, and took this shot. It looks to me like the lady perched atop the building is grimacing. Maybe her torch and star are too heavy - because you know "everything's bigger in Texas."
Just kidding! We loved Texas and would go back in a heartbeat. All of it was wonderful! We couldn't believe all the different types of peppers they sold at the supermarkets. They even had a Slick Willie's Family Pool Hall. Go figure. It was family bar - we did NOT go there, but thought the name was interesting and I had never heard of a "family bar." Sounds like an oxymoron to me. The bowling alley had probably 200 cars parked there at night. The local ice cream parlor had huge ceramic cows on their playground and the cows were painted like ice cream sundaes. Awesome! I hope you have enjoyed my little oddities of Texas post. Love you, Patti!

tsmaYes, it's me first!
#1-I've never had ice tea with peaches - must be a new Austin thing - it being a college town & all.
#2-Many females buy men's boots (including moi)- they tend to be wider.
#3 Wienersnitchel (or however it's spelled!) shows the strong German roots in TX - really there's a lot of 'em there.
#4 Not bothered by grimace on TX lady - don't recall the story but I'm sure there's a good'un!
#5 Speaking of pepper varietys - didja get a chance to go to an HEB grocery store? If so, you'll have seen one of the things I miss...
Love you too!
Glad you're feeling better.

Weinerschnitzel - oh my word what a treat!! You get the most amazing ones in Munich - fresh and hot and tasty, Alice! Some of the best things about European cooking must have made their way over to Texas!!

Have a lovely weekend Alice - blessings to you and your family!

Fun post. LOL I'm from Texas, but haven't been home in awhile so the raspberry tea with peaches must be fairly new. Grams always made "REAL" sweet tea and there wasn't any fruit! Wienerschnitzel is a national chain, not real food if you ask me. We had a ton of them in CA too when I was there.

I married a Texan. You get use to it.

You asked about the "egg" thing on my blog. It's just a simple little thing that I've done for for time. In all my drawing, except when I forget, I place a tiny egg-man somewhere. He's basically a small oval with arms and legs. I don't talk about it much on my blog. So not everyone who visits my blog knows about it. But now you know.

Dh and I lived in the TX panhandle for nearly two years early in our marriage. I hadn't thought about Weinerschnitzel for a long time. I DO remember Whataburger. And I still miss Braums. We lived near the Palo Duro Canyon and that was so beautiful.

TX was a big adjustment for us, and I'm not sorry we got to experience living there, but I'm glad we're back in the midwest!

Hi Alice - thanks for your lovely comments on my blog - just to answer your question, we live in Northern Ireland; County Armagh to be specific! My husband works away from home a lot, in Spain and Poland, so we have a lot of contact with his colleagues out there too. I used to travel with him before we were 3 so we have some friends there and in other parts of mainland Europe - that's partly how I knew about the Schnitzel!

Have a lovely weekend, blessings from Northern Ireland!

(by the way-loved your post)
I've never seen tea with peaches-thats not how we do it in my part of the world (the world of Texas).
Yep, pink cowboy boots, big belt buckles, and rows of studded belts, thats just how we roll:) (Actually that's probably more for tourists)
Wienersnitchel closes on Sunday in my area for some Sunday reverence, I say KUDOS.
She's not grimacing, she growling!! She that sword she has?-"Don't mess with Texas"
Love your peephole rainbow!
I'm glad ya'll enjoyed your visit:)

Looks like you had a great time. I don't know about the peach in the tea, but the rasberry tea I like. Great pictures.

Did you get any "Don't mess with Texas" comments?! LOL!

I live in central FL too. I've had the peach raspberry tea at Olive Garden here. I like it!

I think your post is funny and true about visiting other states. When I went back east I had never seen a Dunkin Donuts let alone a hundred of them on every corner. Where were all the Coffee Bean Stores?

LOL! I love my sweet tea but not with a peach. I also love my cowboy boots but not at that price!
