This Ole House

You've got to wonder what stories this ole house could tell. I've been wanting to take photos here for some time, so my son and I headed over there yesterday. You can see some different shots on his blog. We knew someone who lived in this house about 15 years ago. It stands in total disrepair now. In fact, parts of the roof are falling in and the spiderwebs have long since taken over. Yet, for all the 'lifelessness' of the house, there is still 'life' in the yard as you can see in these next photos. I will leave you with some words from a song I recall from my childhood. They seem to pertain.

This Ole House

This ole house once knew his children.
This ole house once knew his wife.
This ole house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life.

This ole house once rang with laughter.
This ole house heard many shouts.
Now he trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about.

Ain't a gonna need this house no longer.
Ain't a gonna need this house no more.
Ain't got time to fix the shingles.
Ain't got time to fix the floor.

Ain't got time to oil the hinges,
Nor to mend the windowpane.
Ain't a gonna need this house no longer.
He's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints.

Great shots. Love the flowers. I'm always wondering about old houses and the people who once lived there.

Boy I can't remember how many times I have heard that song sung in my childhood days. I love the picture of the flowers. So pretty especially for a deserted house. Mine are not that pretty and I take care of them. Maybe that is the problem.

Beautiful photos. Especially the flowers.

There is a house similar to this that is near my neighborhood. I remember passing this house on my way to school every day and wondering if someone actually lived there and just didn't take care of the exterior of the house or if it was just vacant.

I still live in the same neighborhood as an adult and this house still looks the same. Maybe I'll have to photograph it sometime.

I love old houses, and I always wonder if it could talk, what stories it would tell!
