Flowers or People?

I like taking a good picture of a flower. I enjoy looking for them as I ride or walk around. I like thinking about where likely spots are for the flowers to be blooming. I find it relaxing, peaceful, and somewhat therapeutic. On the other hand, I also enjoy doing a "photo shoot" with the girls :). It's challenging, fun, exciting, and requires a lot more thought. So, do I prefer flowers or people? Well, let's see. Flowers don't poke their lip out when you mention shooting some pictures. They don't roll their eyes as if you are totally blind and don't see this. Flowers don't have bad hair days, scheduling conflicts, or homework to contend with. On the other hand, flowers don't ooh and ahh when they look at the photos you shot. They don't smile and say, "I never thought I was beautiful before." Flowers don't reward us with hugs and kisses. Hummm... flowers or people? I'd choose people everytime :).

Some Day My Prince Will Come - OR - You've Got To Kiss a Lot of Toads :)

We had a great time yesterday, running from place to place taking pictures. The weather was overcast and it never got too hot, so it was perfect :). She is a beautiful young lady which really makes it so easy to get good photos. I love the first shot of her kissing the frog. This was in her grandmother's beautiful flower garden in front of her house. What a great idea! Her idea, not mine, her own special twist to these photos. I can't wait till we go out again. I already have some new locations in mind.

Sunset Through the Trees

Taken from the front side of our house, this evening. Kali and I stood and watched as the sun set and shot pictures. Recently, one of the young men from our church has been at the house cutting back branches and limbs from all our many trees. This is the main reason we were able to get some good shots from the yard. We now have unobstructed view :) . These pictures of Kali are pink because of the sun reflecting on her face. The colors were brilliant, sometimes orange, sometimes yellow, sometimes pink. Sunsets always remind me of rainbows. Rainbows always remind of God's promises. God's promises always remind me of heaven and a home and a future...with Him. Maybe that's why I always find sunsets to be so beautiful.

Just an "aside" note. In the middle of the first shot is a blob resembling a plane. When I blew this up on my computer screen, I found that it is actually a HUGE dragonfly. Kali jumped a couple times and kept saying something about a bug. I never saw it until I downloaded this photo to look at. Kind of strange that I caught it midflight and didn't even know it was there :).

Closing In On Sunset

Tonight we were actually at home when the sun went down. Kali and I went out to the front of our house to see if we could take some shots of a - hopefully - beautiful sunset. Intermingled with those shots I took pictures of Kali, some when she knew it and some when she did not. This was a good close to an otherwise stressful and hectic day.

Cheeseburger

What in the world does "cheeseburger" have to do with this picture, you might ask. On Facebook, the students are always sending me bumper stickers of cute little animals. Many times they are saying something about cookies or cheeseburgers :). I was taking pictures of some of our kittens when I happened to catch this little guy just as he was yawning! My immediate thought was of those cute bumper stickers - especially the cheeseburger ones. If this was Facebook, this photo would have words printed on it reading: "I haz cheezburgr pleaz?" Yep, their spelling is usually horrendous - but sooooo funny! This picture is even funnier if you click on it to enlarge it. What a mouth on this little fellow!!!

Summer Flowers in Bloom

Living in the south, we get to enjoy beautiful flowers like these almost year-round. Earlier today, we stopped at a local restaurant for lunch and spotted these in their flower beds. They remind me of what a black-thumb I have when it comes to growing flowers and plants. Years ago, a secret sister at church gave me a beautiful hanging basket of flowers. I never had the heart to tell anyone at the church that the flowers died almost immediately. I am just no good, none whatsoever, when it comes to plants and flowers. I am forever destined to enjoy everyone else's.

Mush-poof

I was walking in from the car last night and saw this strange conglomeration in the driveway. When I stopped and looked closer, I saw it was a wad of little mushrooms. Too dark for pictures, I waited until today. Kali and I went out to feed the goats and I remembered the mushrooms. Kali termed it a "mushpoof". Interesting looking. I don't believe I've ever seen that many mushrooms growing together like this.

Dog Lick - Eeyuweee!

OK, Kali and I aren't either one feeling well today :( . In a moment of silliness, I pulled out my camera to take a picture of my dog. This was my immediate result.

Cocoa got excited, thinking I wanted to play, and she ran and licked my camera! Yuck! just as I was clicking. As she heard me go "Ugh!", she backed away and I took the next picture with a slightly blurry lens.

It is a good thing we are easily entertained :) and Cocoa is a good sport. Don't you think she looks much better, even though a little blurry, in the second photo? What a laugh!

Today is the Day - New from Lincoln Brewster

Lincoln Brewster is my favorite musician by far. I am trying to figure out some way to get him to our church for a concert. Kali and I saw him at the Dare2Share Conference in Atlanta. His music style is: praise, worship, uplifting, energetic, fun, meaningful, and all glorifying to God. Click on the video and listen to his new song. You will need to turn off my playlist first, or you will be hearing two Lincoln Brewster songs at the same time :). He sang this one in Atlanta while they were still learning it. Lincoln wrote the song, as he does many of the ones he sings. The new CD comes out later this month.

Fortify Your Roots

Tropical Storm Fay came through our area several weeks ago. I noticed this tree when we came back home from the hotel we stayed in. I am guessing the roots became so water logged that the tree just toppled over. It appears the tree would have extended out into the highway, so someone must have chainsawed off that portion. The roots are probably about 10' tall from the ground up and stiff as can be. I wanted my daughter to stand in front so you could tell how tall the roots are, but there was so much mud and muck I was afraid to send her out there :). So, I just shot this photo through the car window. It is really incredible to look at.

Scripturally, this reminds me to fortify my roots, to keep myself grounded in God and His Word, so that when strong winds like Fay come blowing through my life, I won't be tossed up on the ground and left exposed like this tree.
